Laboratory Assistant

We have an opportunity for someone to work as a Laboratory Assistant based at our Grantham Processing Plant.  You will be doing the testing and checking of the Plant, Equipment and Product including collection and dispatch of samples to outside Laboratories.  You must accurately input data and report any issues.  In-house training and on the job training will be supplied.

 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide assurance that sampling and testing are correctly performed
  • Staff to be conversant with quality system documentation so that our policies and procedures are reflected in work practices
  • The Laboratory team members are responsible for the duties of the Laboratory Supervisor when absent
  • Report any deviation in the process to Laboratory Supervisor / Quality Assurance Department
  • Prepare testing and sample materials
  • Undertake sample collections
  • Set-up and perform tests
  • Interpret and record test data and results
  • Prepare and sign reports if designated as an authorized signatory
  • Undertake inhouse calibrations
  • Undertake laboratory housekeeping activities
  • Ensure pre-operational swabs are carried out so that all relevant areas meet required hygienic standards
  • Provide input into development of laboratory activities
  • Be physically fit to carry and move cartons weighing up to and in some cases more than 27.2kg
  • Comply and follow Stanbroke Code of Conduct
  • Conduct Container temperature checks
  • Input results into the system, both internal and external documents 
  • Any other reasonable task directed by Laboratory Supervisor or Management

Working conditions:

This position requires you to work in different working conditions.  You are required to be able to work in cold as well as warm areas.  You need to be able to follow a Roster that covers a 12 hour period.  First Shift starts at 4.00am and last Shift starts at 5.00am.  You need to be able to work a 10 hour Shift.

Physical Requirements:

You need to be able to lift up to 27.2kg sometimes exceeding this limit.  This position requires the incumbent to be able to perform testing for hours at a time through these cartons around while using a hammer to test product, while in a cold environment.  This position also requires you to work on the slaughter floor where it is warmer and requires you to work around blood, stomach and fecal matter while collecting samples.
